About Talkscript

TalkScript takes the collective knowledge of veteran enterprise engineers and does the unthinkable by not keeping it a secret.

Episode 43: Fun with Art

Members of the TalkScript team were onsite at NEJS Conf 2019 where we did a series of interviews with the conference speakers. We had a great time meeting these thought leaders and learning more about each of them and their talks. We’ve compiled the interviews into a four-part series to help share the essence of NEJS Conf 2019!

Our final episode from NEJS features interviews with Adrienne Tacke and Trent Willis around the theme of using art to personalize and elevate our experiences.

We chat with Adrienne about her use of her favorite kind of emoji (sweets) to create and refactor code examples where documentation tends to be overly technical and the examples are dry and lifeless. A fun part of this discussion centers around the topic of what Adrienne calls JavaScript’s “paradigm malleability” that lends itself to developers approaching JavaScript from other languages using it in whatever way they feel is most comfortable.

Our conversation with Trent starts with a discussion of forum signatures which have fallen off in terms of popularity but allowed for users to express themselves through art. Trent’s talk centered around the project he created to allow algorithmic generative art to be embedded in a page, as well as how we can do it in a way that avoids possible performance problems.
